Optimal Care Pathways
Improving quality cancer care through optimal care pathways
Client: Department of Health
Project duration: 12 months
Nationally consistent best practice pathways are critical to reducing variation in cancer care. The national Optimal Cancer Care Pathways describe the key steps in a patient’s cancer journey and expected standards of care at each stage. They were endorsed by the Australian Health Ministers’ Advisory Council and COAG Health Council over 2015-2016.
In collaboration with the National Cancer Expert Reference Group (NCERG) and the Department of Health, ZEST Health Strategies developed a Framework and interactive online package of tools to support the early adoption and uptake of Optimal Cancer Care Pathways by cancer services across Australia.
The Framework includes:
- Communications strategy and key messaging
- Stakeholder mapping and analysis tools
- Data guidance tables and reporting templates
- Communication planning tools
- Factsheets and FAQs
